US Federal Contractor Registration: Preparing for FEMA Contracts in 2015 is a Key Contracting Factor.
On January 6th, 2015, the Small Business Administration (SBA) distributed a press release discussing ways for businesses to prepare for natural disasters. It mentions some of the major disasters that caused the most property damaged during the 2014 year. After a full review of the yearly damage report, it was determined that the floods in Michigan, New York, Oregon, New Mexico, Arizona and California caused the most overall damage. While businesses should always be prepared for sudden disasters with the necessary insurance, US Federal Contractor Registration is reminding business owners to become properly registered FEMA contractors to help with disaster relief efforts.
When a natural disaster occurs, FEMA and other government procurement officers will award sole source contacts, or better known as no bid contracts to businesses that are prepared for these opportunities. These no bid contracts are awarded immediately to businesses that are on the site of the disaster. These selected contractors do not have to go through the normal sealed bidding process and can get right to work with a guaranteed contract. Businesses must have documented Past Performance, be a registered government contractor in System for Award Management (SAM), and have submitted an Industry Liaison Program Vendor Profile to FEMA to accept FEMA contracts.
